Batanes

Worth visiting!

A review of this place: trip worth taking  — 1 year ago

Batanes is not a party place but it’s where you can go to experience a different kind of travel high… the kind that leaves you in awe of the knowledge that such beauty, simplicity and tranquility exists.

batanes tips

there are many options for accommodations in batanes, the most popular is seaside lodge. we stayed there and it was pretty ok. the view from the veranda is postcard pretty and for P450/night, one couldn’t complain =) there’s another place farther down the national highway which is a bit more expensive but the beach is more private – i’m not sure if it’s called batanes lodge (sorry, i forgot na).
i’m not so sure about bringing a baby to batanes though. most of the time you’ll be on the road, walking, trekking or riding the falowa. the baby might like it but it sure is going to be a lot of work for the mom or yaya =P however, if the baby will be left in the hotel most of the time, then i think it’s going to be ok – although do think of the 2 hour plane ride in a 70-seater plane going there.
there, i hope i was able to help. for all it’s worth, take the trip!!! batanes is really great =)

advice

hi barbara01! i was trawling through the net for info on batanes and found your entry. my friends and i are planning a trip holy week ‘08 and want to DIY the itinerary. from your experience, do you think that’s wise or would you recommend we go with a tour group?

hope you can help out a fellow footloose traveler.

thanks!

reply to advice

hi abbydabby =)

how many friends are joining you ? a tour group will be cheaper – i’m not sure if the minimum group size is 4 or 6 though. just pray that you get stuck with people who are more or less like you—less hassle and you make new friends along the way.

if you have time, then a DIY itinerary will be ok although compare it with the tour’s as they might end up as the same.

hope this helps.

more questions

hello again, barbara! i’m guessing that’s your name, hehe. my name is abby.

thanks for your reply. mine is slightly delayed. for some reason or other, it wouldn’t go through when i tried sending it a couple of weeks ago.

anyway, did you go on a tour group? what were the places of interest that you visited and was the tour guide absolutely necessary?

i normally travel with a group of anywhere from 4 to 10 friends and we are used to planning a budget-friend itinerary on our own and just hiring the services of a guide for the “specialized” areas. would that work in a place like batanes, you think, or will we be completely helpless?

thanks for your time!
