That’s enough time to go to Amsterdam for sure. Amsterdam is about 15 minutes away by train. And shops are open on sunday, so that should be okay. I think stuff starts opening up from 10 am or something, but I’m not 100% sure about that.

As for arts: it kinda depends what arts you are into. If you want to see Rembrandt’s Nachtwacht (Nightwatch) you can do that easy. The collection of the Rijksmuseum right now is really small. Only took me an hour. Take a tram from the central station to the Museumplein. You can also find the Van Gogh Museum there, if that’s more to your tastes.

2. don’t take a bike, walk. (it could be dangerous to go by bike when you’re stoned.)

I think everything opens at 9 or 10. Schiphol airport is not too fat from Amsterdam Centraal, you can get there by train.

The red light district that’s close to the central station (walk forward 3 blocks and then to the left one block) is the safest place you can go for one of those coffee houses, although… yeah. I agree with ovenheizung in most of her advices.

Bikes you can rent at the station, and there’s plenty of places to get one. Be careful where and how you park, bikes get stolen very easily. Especially in Amsterdam.

Rembrandt museum is nice and has a nice collection, but you can also visit the van Gogh museum, the sex museum, Anna Frank’s house (that’s the best places you can go to). You can take a trip through the canal (the boats are hired just in front of the station). You could also go to the soccer stadium by metro, but it would take a long time to get there and back, so I don’t advise you to go there.

The Rembrandt Museum and Van Gogh Museums are both good places if you are interested in art. Anne Frank House is interesting but there may be a long wait to get in – maybe try going there first if that is something you want to see.

There is also a market at Waterloo Plein that you might like to check out for some local colour. I also think a boat ride around the canals would be a nice thing to do.

Or, of course you could go to a coffee house and get stoned. But I personally think that’s a bit of a non-experience, when there are so many great real experiences to be had! Walk around, soak up the atmosphere – have a great time.

It appears that most of your questions have been answered. The only 2 cents I have to offer is that most of the big name coffee houses have a minimum purchase amount. So its possible you may end up with more stuff than you can smoke in one day.

You definitely have enough time for Amsterdam, but you’ll miss out on some of the fun stuff, because it’s more of a late night city.

1. Fantasy Homegrown, Der Dampkring, and Blueburd are great places, but unfortunately I can’t tell you how to get to them. I don’t know the names of any of the streets, I just know how to walk to them! Don’t go to Grasshopper. Most places have minimum purchase amounts, so a lot of tourists try to use everything they buy so as not to waste it, making themselves really sick and stupid in the process. Just use what you’re comfortable with and give the rest away to someone else there. You’ll be happy and make others happy too.

2. Most breakfast places don’t open until 10 or later, and people don’t start really hanging out until after 7 pm. You’ll still find plenty to do, but you might not get a real sense of the city and what it’s like for people who live there or nearby.

3. Lots of places to rent bikes, but if you’ve smoked, be careful. There are tons of bikes and pedestrians and it can be very confusing even if you’re sober.

4. I think people have covered this. If you’re into architecture, just walking around is a phenomenal experience. Also, the Old Church is not only a gorgeous building but has art displays in it, some of which are great. It’s in the heart of the red light district, but that will not be very active during the time you’re there. Although you will see a few barely-dressed women in windows at any time of day.

Rembrandt, definitely. Rijksmuseum if you have the time. Skip the Sex Museum. The Bulldog Coffee Shops have been done to death. Rasta Cafe is just opposite Centraal Station. I recommend! Take your pick of rolled joints from the menu. With the kind of time you have, you’ll need to rent a bike. Also can be done at Dam Centraal Station. I’d say start your tour there. Smoke after the museums, or it’s likely you’ll never bother going there. Oh, and never mind the old Indian lady. They’re a dying breed in Amsterdam, and you’ll only live once!
