If you fly into Schipol, don’t bother with a cab or other expensive transportation into town. The train has frequent departures right out of the main air terminal. An inexpensive, maybe half hour ride will get you to Centraal Station in the middle of town.

Funky, crowded, expensive, wonderful… Amsterdam’s been a favorite destination of mine for decades. Once you’ve satisfied your baser impulses in Walletjes (Red Light District) and Leidseplein, don’t miss the more refined charms in the Jordaan district.
