A review of this place: My kind of old town  — 2 years ago

Worth visiting!

One of charms of Europe are its remnants of mediaeval old towns, preserved to greater or less extent in cities like Bruges, Prague etc. Gamla Stan in Stockholm is up there with them, made all the more pleasant by its compactness (less than a square mile), absence of traffic and centrality. This is where you will find some of the nicest squares and priciest restaurants, as well as the imposing presence of the Kungliga Slottet (royal palace) and Storkyrkan (great chuch).

Too cute! I’ve been to lots of European capitals with the castles and the cathedrals and the old roads going every which way and whatnot, but Stockholm, namely the Gamla Stan (Old Town) district, still stands out as a great example of same. Lots to see, plenty of good wandering, and good eats. We even saw a free concert of Carmina Burana played in one of the squares.
