Monaco may be small, but it can still be difficult to get around solely on foot due to the heat or the steepness of some of the streets.

Jump on a city bus to make your life a bit easier – you can pay on the bus and from memory tickets were 1 euro each.

It really is very small – bordered by France on 3 sides and the Med on the other. It makes for a nice day trip (though perhaps only 1/2 day needed) from Nice.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that the cafes in the port area seemed to be selling food at “normal” prices. So if you wanted you could have a snack and look at the superyachts moored nearby.

Monaco's one saving grace...  — 11 months ago

    Not worth it!

...for me was the Corniches – the three coastal roads that run from Nice through Monaco and on to Menton, made famous by car ads the world over. They are spectacular, especially the middle one (Moyenne Corniche).

Nice place to go, you’ll have fun a lot, but you’ll feel you are the poorest dude on this earth there unless you are millionaire :-)

There you can go and have a great time at casino or any restaurant, good to go with friends!

I spent my 21st birthday here and it was wonderful. I was there with my best friends and we had dinner at the Hotel de Paris. It was wonderful.

Monaco is fabulous. It would have to be one of the most appealing little principalities in the whole world. If I was well-heeled, I’d leave Australia and migrate to Monaco and live there for the rest of my life.

    Monaco is a “must see”.

A review of this place: As a day trip from Nice...  — 1 year ago

    Worth visiting!

I visited Monaco in September as a day trip from Nice, and I had a fabulous time. Upon arriving via train, I had lunch at Le Texan, which was wonderful. The owner actually came out, sat with me, and visited with me for quite awhile, giving me pointers on what to do and see while in Monaco. I toured the palace, which was absolutely beautiful. I also visited the National Museum which was hosting a Barbie exhibit. All the people I encountered were very friendly, helpful, and willing to share their opinions with me. Obviously, there is excellent shopping, expensive cars, and beautiful people… but I found it to be less pretentious than other areas. The sea is beautiful, and it is just amazing to see how the country has been into the drastic countryside of southern France.

    Well worth the trip.

Trust me, unless you are a millionaire, you’ll feel extremely poor walking around in Monaco. Chanel & Cartier shops, the palace, the casino, Ferraris, boats, caviar snacks instead of burgers n fries.. Monaco is pure wealth and a very beautiful place.

I can recommend visiting the car museum. There are plenty of pretty Oldtimers and Formula 1 cars!

That I would actually like Monaco as much as I did. I found that if you looked carefully past the posh and extra clean exterior, you also could discover that there was a lot of interesting things to do besides shop and go to the casino.

However, the posh and people-watching aspect of Monaco is also part of its charm. I ended up being there during their big yacht show, which it was fun to wander down to the harbor and look at the ridiculous display of money! The funny thing was, the biggest yacht in the show, was named the ‘Alyssa’. Gotta love that. Too bad I couldn’t take a cruise on my namesake. Oh-well, it was fun anyway, I will definitely be going back.
