Why I recommend this place to visitors  — 1 year ago

    Worth visiting!

Jeff’s Palm – nestled away on the coast line just off Inhambane must be Mozi’s best kept secret! From scuba, snorkeling, fishing, horseriding or simply doing nothing – it has it all!

Why I want to go to this place  — 1 year ago

All I can say about Mozambique is that Heidi Baker lives there, and anywhere that Heidi Baker is I want to be. She is an amazing missionary that has raised the dead, healed the blind, healed many many people. She is truly a laid down lover. She whole heartedly lives for God and I would love to meet her. And if I gotta go to Moz. then so be it.

Must experience...  — 2 years ago

the food, the mood, the people, the laurentina…the roads are passable to excellent on all the most popular tourist routes, so no problem. accommodation reasonable.the only negative i have, is their money! to convert zar to mozambican meticals requires good maths…today’s exchange rate is 1 ZAR (South African Rand) for 3,537.05 MZN (Mozambique Metical), compared to 1 ZAR for 14.17 GBP (Great British Pound). you can finally be a multi-millionaire!

A review of this place: The Hotel Polana  — 2 years ago

    Worth visiting!

The Hotel Polana is simply a majical place in the city of Maputo. I highly recommomend this hotel. I was only in the city area and surrounding coastal areas. A gorgeous place. I would love to go back sometime.

The last time I went to this place  — 2 years ago

    Worth visiting!

...I was a multi millionaire. (I think the exchange rate at the time was around 20,000 metacais to $1.) About 70% of the people were living below the poverty line, and you had to be careful where you drove. Any place marked off with orange tape had yet to be swept for land mines. Maputo fascinated me. Brand new shiny signs and buildings stood proudly gleaming in the sunshine on the same block as bombed, burned shells of buildings. Little children with legs missing at the knee begged to wash our car window for money at traffic lights…. I could go on but I’ll stop.

I’ve been many times, and fallen a little more in love with the country every time. They have been through such incredible hardship, and yet they keep on keeping on – and smile while they’re doing it. The people are friendly, hard working, and proud to be Mozambiquan.

The night life is incredible. Don’t go out early though – things only start rocking MUCH later on in the evening. There are also loads of little bars and restaurants everywhere. I loved the ones on the beach where you could grab a 3M, and go sit in the sand and watch the fishing boats come in.

    A few tips:

Take the warnings about Malaria seriously.
Ask questions about the water before you drink it.
Don’t go off the road (I understand that there are places without orange tape too)
Obey all the road rules, and don’t back chat the cops, or any other governmental person.
Carry some small coins/notes, and a few bags of individually wrapped candy for the kids.
