Only here for a day to go see Assisi, but the scenery is really nice. It gives some great photo ops.

The websote I found by far the most useful when preparing for my trip was http://penelope.uchicago.edu/Thayer/E/Gazetteer/Places/Europe/Italy/Umbria/map.html

How this place changed my life  — 2 years ago

    Worth visiting!

my sort of ‘true home’ is here; the house my parents have had for 30 odd years and that i’ve seen every summer of my life since i was in my mum’s belly. :)
i love it to bits; perugia is an amazing city, and there’s so many more. and the countryside… well, what can i say, i grew up there, so i’ve got to love it (even though my mum’s gardening has a lot to do with it).
i used to hate going there as a teenager, because i would spend my summers alone; now i take friends from all over europe with me and we drink wine, swim in the pool in the middle of the night, play scrabble and listen to music, and it’s just great.
i think my best birthday (my 21st) was probably the one i spent in my house with some of my best friends.
    i miss it, you know…

Like Tuscany but cheaper and homier  — 2 years ago

    Worth visiting!

Umbria is Tuscany’s neglected little brother. I spent a summer in Umbria with trips into Tuscany. I loved walking around the small towns of Umbria, biking it’s roads, taking trains to Assisi, Perugia, etc. It’s as beautiful as Tuscany but less traveled. Highlights for me were Perugia, Assisi and Orvieto.

Stayed at Country House Montali – a gourmet vegetarian hotel on top of a plateau (with wonderful views) set within an olive grove. So peaceful.

Great summer destination  — 3 years ago

    Worth visiting!

We were able to rent a villa in Umbria and it was great. They had the hottest summer on record this year in Italy, but it was very pleasant in Umbria—around 70 degrees during the day and 60 at night. It is incredibly beautiful there.
