Seemed like one of the great cities of the world, but not a premier tourist destination. It was a bit too sprawling, and I didn’t see enough major sites of interest to put Munich in the same league as Paris, Venice, Rome, and Amsterdam. But I would love to live there.

If you only have one day in Munich, like I did, try a New Munich Free Tour. The guides are well trained and entertaining.

The tour lasts about three hours and gives you historical background to the places you visit. It’s a little heavy on the history of the Third Reich, but there’s a stop at Hofbräuhaus and the Viktualienmarkt, plus a great legend about the devil and a pair of Birkenstocks, so it’s not too dark.

Learning the public transportation system will save you a lot of headache…as will using a city map! Ask at the hotel desk for one.

i just got back from munich last night. i had only been there for about three days (it was the last leg of a month long trip in germany). if you want to stop by a brewery, the Augstiner, the oldest one in munich, is a little more laid back. The Hofbraehaus was fun, but very loud and crowded, and a bit more touristy. In general, Munich is a pretty touristy place, but it’s also a beautiful city and it has a lot of cool history. Definetely worth checking out. btw, if you’re looking for a fun tour, you might want to check out mike’s bikes. we did a city bike tour and saw neuschwanstein with them and had a really good time.

On my 24th birthday, I had dinner in a beer garden and ordered more dessert than I could possibly eat, and got treated to a round of schnapps by some locals. What more could you want?

    A GREAT TIME  — 8 months ago

    Worth visiting!

I had the best time! I hope to go back one day soon, and spend some more time there once I have learned more of the language. It was amazing.

We had an amazing time, thanks to everyones advice

The Hotel am Markt for where it was (2 min from Marienplatz) was very affordable and nice 109E/night. The room was very clean, and the tiny bathroom was all we needed. If I ever went back with just the guys, the economy room would be fine, as I never saw anyone in the shared shower.

We spent most nights at the bratwursthertzl where we met some great characters, drank plenty of beer, learned about the “schnitt” The Hofbrauhaus was crazy but we met some real nice people. The market was also a lot of fun. It was funny how early all the bars closed, one night we went out to the internet cafe to print out some tickets we needed and we passed a bar along the way that was PACKED kareoke and all, when we returned back at 11:30pm it was closed.

All in all we had a great time, we went to another bar on a small alley off of Tal and actually got beers in steins. It was a blast.

We always purchased/validated the tickets for the train even though noone ever checked them at 2.20E each way it was a little spendy but the right thing to do.

I recommend this trip to anyone

I had a great time there. I recommend visiting the beer halls (Augustiner Keller and Hoffbrauhaus) and taking a trip to the Neuschwanstein castle. New Year’s Eve in Munich is amazing!

During the World Cup München was so cool! People wearing flags all over the city, everyone so happy and willing to meet people from all over the globe. The subway system was packed but surprisingly everyone smiled and cheered in groups and sang songs to support their teams. The Haufbrauhaus was neat to see but the Augustinergärden was much better. Very spacious and outside. Mikes Bike tours was cool and the big park there (I forget the name). Also there was an area of clubs… almost like a funpark I think it was called Kuntzplatz or something like that and there were like 30 bars and clubs in this area. It was a ton of fun. When we woke up in the morning none of us (there were 10) knew how we got home. Was a great night none-the-less!
