Took the train to Stirling yesterday. Exiting the station, headapollo and I walked to the Old Bridge, which we then crossed to continue on to Wallace Monument. Up there the view of the town was spectacular, and you could see Stirling Castle across the way. We then walked back down town and up to the Church of Holy Rude (not to be confused with the Holyrood of Edinburgh), which has a huge cemetery. There is a peak that has benches where you can relax and enjoy the view that overlooks both the town and the Castle. We took a shortcut through the cemetery and climbed a staircase that leads up to the Castle. From there we could look across the ‘valley’ to the Wallace Monument. Enjoyed a coffee at the Bean Scene and then had dinner at a great Indian restaurant. Great day.

This city of 86,000 people is quaint. A visit is worthwhile for the William Wallace fan….but truth be told, I prefer Glasgow. So stop by for a day and check out the castle, Holy Rude graveyard, and Mar’s Wark. One day (maybe two) should be sufficient.

I lived here for five months while at Stirling Uni and loved it. A quiet place but with enough to keep you occupied. There’s a few good pubs and you can almost always find an open mic or quiz night to attend. the castle is excellent and the trek to the top of the wallace monument is well worth it on a clear day. most importantly the city is perfectly situated to get anywhere around scotland easily. definately worth a visit.

lovely little city, though the older part of town is much more coveted in my eyes. there are a few lovely little pubs (i like drouthy neebours quite a bit for some reason) and some nice charity shops and secondhand places for cds and books. the castle is a good tourist visit; i prefer it to edinburgh castle. the cemetery is one of the most beautiful places- very quiet and calm as cemeteries should be.
the train station is shite, mostly because they lock the toilets up to prevent vandalism, which leads to unhappiness.

What a boring place sometimes. I stay near here and theres nothing ever on worth going to, no decent music bars.

Hey everyone that wants to come to Stirling!
I reckon it’s an incredibly boring place to live (NOTHING to do.. bad shops and one tiny cinema is about it) but it’s tourist heaven, with all the history!
And it is quite pretty, I suppose..

When I was in Edinburgh I had to make a trip to Stirling, sortof a pilgrimage in honor of my favorite professor whose last name was Stirling and often told stories of this town. It’s a very interesting small town. The castle is superb and has an interesting history. Walking back from the castle on a weekday afternoon, we heard bagpipes playing somewhere in town. When we tracked down the piper, we found a couple getting married at city hall. Stirling makes a great daytrip from Edinburgh.
