Casablanca

my parents used to take me there to do some shopping. beware of pickpocketers.

Before I went I was reading a reviev where the guy was saying that he never had such poor service anywhere… Having spent 9 days there I have to say the guy was probably a really cheap moron.

Chances are the person serving you is being paid the equivilant of a beer for his day’s salery. I found giving a decent tip after the first beer ensured they were always waiting for me and they always went out of their way to keep me happy.

I’ve been told that Casablanca is where the Muslum world parties. The plane ride from Dubai was packed… I stayed at the Hotel Club Val D’Anfa which was 4 stars. I had a junior execative room that cost me $55 CDN a night. Small but nice pool and right beside 5km of beach with a decent surf and hundreds of people.

The hotel’s nightclub opened around midnight and was incredible – the women are beautiful and love to dance while the beer is cheap. I had a blast the whole time there and can’t wait to go back.

The mystique that the movie carries really is the principal reason for my desire to go to Casablanca. I’ve heard that it’s actually quite an undesireable city and that there are a thousand nicer places to go in Morocco. I concede, but Ithink I shall still pop into Casablanca on my way to the nicer places. It can’t hurt, can it?

Great food, especially there is a restaurant on the cliffs!! Amazing!! And if you want to be a lil adventures … try something that looks like cooked garden snails! They even supply the toothpick to hunt it out of the shell!! ;)

because I always imagined this being one of the most romantic places in the world.

A solid jolt to the boredom of Euro-American conventions. Keep your wallet in your front pocket and your hands in your pocket.

I worked in Casablanca for 3 weeks in the Sheraton in a temporary casino. I spent loads of time in the market. But when the ships were in, we left as the vendors won’t bargain or lower their prices. I always went with 1 or 2 of the boys and I wore a wedding ring. Just stops the hassling. It i an intersting place, with lots more to see than I did.

Recommended, but probably not for the weak-hearted. Guided tours would suit folks who know little or zero Arabic/French. Charming city and the Hassan Mosque is a splendid work of architectural art!

Casablanca is a really wild place. Anything goes. Another “must do” town. You have to got to the Mosque close to McD… Friendly folks, great bargains, strong mint tea… forget about driving, they’re maniacs. Felt very safe even coming out of bars at 4am. I’ll probably go back.
