Why I want to go to this place  — 2 days ago

Became fascinated by this city as a small child, hearing stories about streets made of water. In time it will become completely submerged, as the water level continues to rise… i wish to see Venezia while there is still a Venezia to see!

    Worth visiting!

I lived here for 3 months for work and it was amazing, but I do think it is a crying shame that there are almost no locals at all, only tourists. That aside, it is a haunting, gorgeous, fascinating place. The food is so-so, so is the shopping, and you will get very, very lost. But it is unforgettable.

Well, I used to go to Venice 3 or 4 times every year with my parents because we have some close friends there (in Malamocco – Lido). So I visited Venice a lot of time!
The last time I went there it was with my boyfriend, two years ago.
It was soooooooo romantic with him :)

    Not worth it!

It was cold and rainy, and my two day trip here came at the end of ten days of traveling the length of Italy by train, so I was a bit travel weary on top of everything.

The vaporetto made me motion sick, the Grand Canal flooded Piazza San Marco, and the streets were impossible to navigate.

I spent just a few hours in Venezia in the evening but I find it very exciting and enchanted. This is the place where you can get lost two times in fifteen minutes.:) I would gladly go back again for more time to get to know it better.

As they say “see Venice and die”. It doesn’t matter how long you are there or how many times, this city is breathtaking. (and it’s not because the water in the canals stinks! ;) just don’t concentrate on it, watch the beautiful monuments and feel the atmosphere of this unique city!)

A tip I have about this place  — 6 months ago

    Worth visiting!

I’ve heard so many ridiculous comments about seeing “everything you need to see in 2 days”, that I was embarrassed to be American. Venice is a gem, and especially so at a slow pace. Sit in an off-the-beaten-path campo and watch, and listen, and feel the city. Every tiny church that you walk into is filled with the loveliest of treasures. The old Jewish Ghetto is wonderful. Get to know each of the districts, and go far enough away from the tourist areas to hear the sounds of the water at night. See the real Venice and fall in love.

Be prepared for the crowds (particularly leading to St. Mark’s Square) if you’re there in peak season. It can feel like you’re shuffling along in a long slow queue. Take along a good map (the streets are a maze!) but also enjoy exploring the streets of the less touristy spots.

I still remember my first glimpse of Venice as we emerged from the train station – we were struck dumb by how beautiful it was. Enjoy!
