Bring water and an umbrella. NO MATTER WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE NOW! If it looks even remotely cloudy stay below the treeline.

The primary roads through the park were closed for winter. But several people were in the park enjoying the snow and trekking through the quiet park.

Stayed in Estes Park and did day hikes in the park—hikes to Emerald Lake and Ouzel Falls were gorgeous and very doable for two flatlanders.

It is the top of the world, looking down at the hanging lakes at 12,000 ft above sea level. Absolutely amazing weather, n rain yet we say 3 rainbows today, one was a double double. 72 Degrees at the top.

AWESOME camping!!! Cool night air in the summer and gorgeous mountain sunsets make this a worthy trek.

    Hiking, camping, scenic drives-Yes
    Skiing and snowboarding-NO
Awesome views, climb 14,000 ft. peeks…
and the locals have been “crusing” the main drag since the 40’s(i’m not a local, but have friends and family that are)- the more things change the more they stay the same…
September is probably the best-less crowds, great weather, elks bugeling…Stephen King wrote “the shining” at the Stanley, and the TV movie version was filmed there(not the one with Nicholson)...

Why I recommend this place to visitors  — 1 year ago

We hiked the Emerald Lake Trail, which is off Bear Lake Road. It was a bit crowded, but the views were amazing.

It’s an absolutely beautiful place. We hiked through part of this park and drove through some of it, so we could see even more. I love how it’s cooler on top of the mountains, and the air smells and feels so clean.

I spent two days exploring this park. The first day I came in on the east side and followed the main road until I was driving blind in the snow. I turned back. The next day I came in on the south entrance and came out of the east entrance. It is beautiful there.

We saw loads of great stuff here – Moose, Elk, and a family of Coyotes with pups. A really beautiful park which I’d love to visit again sometime.
