    Worth visiting!

I worked here for the Pittsburgh Penguins for the 1994-95 season. It was a fun experience…worked in the Choice Seat Dept and sometimes I got to work the Customer Service Booth for the Penguin games which was so much fun. Got to see lots of free concerts, circus, Penguin Games, all with free parking. Walked out of my Dept one time and almost stepped in elephant crap….what a hoot that was. On lunch breaks, we would sit and watch the Penguins practice. Great times. Loved it.

    Not worth it!

alright to catch a cheap concert, not so much for sporting events. overpriced everything, horrible bathrooms. just not taken care of very well.

Home of the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Mellon Arena may not be beautiful, but it’s definitely part of the history of Pittsburgh.

Civic Arena  — 3 years ago

    Worth visiting!

I don’t care how much money Mellon forked over, this place will always be the Civic Arena to me. Though one day I suspect it will be renamed Lemieux Memorial Arena.

Concerts here are nice. Pens games rock. Until recently Pitt had commencment and basketball here.

One of the unique things about the arena is the dome. It was originally designed to be partially open, unfortunately that rarely happens. Some genius decided to dangle expensive equipment such as the scoreboard from the ceiling making opening the dome a very expensive endeavor.

Enough of my blathering. If there is an event you want to see at the Arena… go.

Part of the visit all NHL arenas quest  — 3 years ago

    Worth visiting!

This arena, the oldest in the NHL, made me understand a little more about why owners want new arenas with the latest amenities. Bathrooms are a joke, not enough concessions stands, but sightlines were pretty good and the crowd was passionate.
