I would pay a little more for Seaworld instead.

Awesome place! You can actually touch the sharks and stingrays.
The aviary is cool too. The birds will come and land on you and eat right out of your hand; makes for great pictures. I wouldn’t reccomend the behind the scene tour; unless you get a better a host than we had, though.

We went yesterday and it was amazing! My son loved petting the sharks, sting rays and feeding the lorikeets. My favorite was watching the sea lions and otters play, (though the otters seemed more interested in hiding and sleeping). The jellyfish were phenomenal (too bad I couldn’t get a decent picture). There were some great exhibits, but I think the best was the hands on with petting the stingrays, sand sharks, starfish, anemone…Definitely give the aquarium 2 thumbs us.

Once you’ve been to Sea World’s Aquarium this pales in comparision. It has improved somewhat since it first opened it’s doors. They’ve added a Bird Sancturary. They have a lot deacons who will educate you about all things Ocean. In 2005 some teenagers broke into the Aquarium and wrecked havoc. They smased a turtle egg; threw furniture and garbage in the tanks; tortured, battered sharks. One was found dead outside, having been smashed on the wall. They were caught when they returned the next day to have some more “fun”. Because of their age, they weren’t really punished for their crimes. They had to write letters of apology. One of the boys said he didn’t know he’d done anything wrong. Sad.

I had to observe some fish. My favorite was the ‘Dory and Nemo’ tank – I sat there for a while, and every kid that walked by started shouting, “It’s Dory! And Nemo!” from Finding Nemo. Expensive to get in, but there are discounted tickets at Costco, and on their website there are special discounts for Long Beach residents, as well.
