Ocean Beach

For me, this is San Diego’s very best beach. If you like to save money on accomodations, I’ve always stayed at the HI Point Loma. The hostel is a nice 1 mile walk from the beach in a quieter part of town. The hostel itself is nothing exceptional, but it will do as a safe place to rest your head after a day of splashing in the waves.

What a nice stretch of sand! And walking out on the pier, seeing the pelicans, surfers, street musicians. Go for a short walk north and visit Dog Beach, where people and their canine family members run! The dogs totally ignore the humans and make their own beach paradise. They are beautiful!! Lots of locals here, a small, offbeat shopping street, and a few good places to stay – not fancy, not “family,” but good. Good diner for breakfast, too. I could be happy on Ocean Beach.

It’s a beautiful, sunny place. Great memories here.

Mission Beach is way crowded with tourists to the point of being absolutely ridiculous, and Pacific Beach (including Turmo and Wind-N-Sea, etc) is mostly for surfers. you can surf Ocean Beach during certain times, but then they call the surfers out so people can swim and boogie board. it’s right next to Dog Beach, where you can take your dog and play fetch in the water, etc.

great place to relax and hang out, but I’m not sure I’d want to live there…

And by day it IS a quiet and quaint looking place. But at night – look out! We called it “tweakersville” when we lived there…and got out ASAP after our door was filled with bullet holes and we were told that the police would not come to OB at night. Nice to visit maybe…during the day! And make sure you like dogs too!

down off the cliffs there’s this amazing little beach where only the locals chill, it’s amazing.

It’s almost unbelievable. OB is a small community inside of San Diego, which has its own distictive character. When I’m in San Diego I like to try to drop by Ocean Beach to walk along the beach and stroll along the pier.

I walk by all of the quaint little bungalows and think how I wish that I had bought one 25 years ago. They are worth a small fortune now.

OB is by far my favorite beach back home in San Diego

Wish I still had the freedom I did years ago when I lived here. I would go back!!!
